Performance Analysis of Adaptive Location Management for Mobile IP

چکیده
Mobile IP is the proposed standard for IP based mobile internetworking by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). A mobile node registers its current location with its home agent when it moves across IP subnets in a foreign network. IP datagrams for the mobile node are routed to its home agent before being tunneled to the mobile node through its current foreign agent. When a mobile node is far away from home, registration with its home agent can cause a long handoo delay that leads to signiicant packet drop and throughput reduction. We have developed a dynamic location control scheme that extends Mobile IP with routing agents. Local movements are handled directly by the routing agent of a mobile node. Only macro movements require registrations at the home agent by the mobile node via its routing agent. This paper analyzes the performance of standard Mobile IP and Mobile IP with routing agents in terms of registration cost, packet drop, and packet tunneling cost. The introduction of routing agents preserves Mobile IP as a special case and many of its advantages, but provides better support for micro mobility and allows greater exibility for location control based upon diierent cost factors.

Adaptive Mobility Management Scheme for Mobile IP using Ad Hoc Networks
Mobile IP has been developed to handle global mobility of mobile hosts. Mobile IP suffers from a number of drawbacks such as frequent location update, high signaling overhead, high handover latency, high packet loss rate, and requirement of infrastructure change. To treat these problems, we propose a new mobility management scheme by constructing dynamic service regions of Ad Hoc networks for r...

In this paper, we propose an adaptive mobility management scheme for minimizing signaling costs in Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6) networks. In our proposal, if the mobile node’s mobility is not local, the mobile node sends location update messages to correspondent nodes in the same way as Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6). After the creation of a spatial locality of the mobile node’s movement, the mobile ...
متن کاملMobility Management Based on the Integration of Mobile IP and Session Initiation Protocol in Next Generation Mobile Data Networks
For a mobile node that uses both Mobile IP and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), there is severe redundant registration overhead because the mobile node has to make location registration separately to the Home Agent for Mobile IP and to the Home Registrar for SIP. Therefore, we propose two new IP mobility management methods that integrate both Mobile IP and SIP. Performance comparisons are mad...
متن کاملMobility Management Issues for Next Generation Wireless Networks
The next generation networks must support mobility for ubiquitous communication between any two nodes irrespective of their locations. Mobile IP was the first protocol to support mobility. The process of registration in Mobile IP protocol requires large number of location updates, excessive signaling traffic and service delay. This problem is solved by Hierarchical Mobile IP (HMIP) using the co...

The performance evaluation of mobile packet switching networks is nowadays an important topic in mobile communications. In the INTERNET, a classical packet switching environment, a hierarchical approach to the mobility management problem has been followed, focusing mainly on macro-level and micro-level mobility: while MOBILE IP provides a good framework for allowing users to roam between domain...
